“And the shepherds went with haste and found Mary and Joseph, and the baby lying in a manger. And when they saw it, they made known the saying that had been told them concerning this child. And all who heard it wondered at what the shepherds told them. But Mary treasured up all these things, pondering them in her heart.” Luke 2:16-19
Love … a holy ribbon woven throughout Scripture.
Beginning before Genesis thoughts graced the stage of life. Reaching far beyond the final Word of Revelation. Well into eternity. Love never ending.
God is not full of love. God is Love. And Christ is that Holy Ribbon which has always been and always will be. A ribbon of Love strung from eternity to eternity.
In today’s key verse we capture the brilliant moments of Love taking on human form. Wrapped in infant flesh. Trading limitless space for a limited earthen place within the confines of a manger.
Love stooping low for us.
Love bending its knee for you. So that you can celebrate this Advent season with wonder and awe.
In these quiet moments, try to imagine all that Mary treasured up and pondered in her heart. As she cradled Love in her arms and felt that tiny heartbeat. Holding Love close and noticing every perfect detail of His face, hands, feet.
What was Mary pondering in the midst of Love?
Was she reminiscing the inaugural conversation when the angel, Gabriel, first appeared to her nine months prior?
“Greetings, O favored one, the Lord is with you! … behold, you will conceive in your womb and bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus. He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. And the Lord God will give to him the throne of his father David, and he will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and of his kingdom there will be no end.” Luke 1:30-33
Was Mary pondering words from the shepherds’ own angelic experience?
“Suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying, “Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace among those with whom he is pleased!” Luke 2:13-14
I believe Mary was pondering the nearness of Love. So tender. So perfect. So complete.
And just like Mary … this Love is here for you today. Do you see Love? Do you ponder Love’s presence? Do you treasure up all the things Love has done for you?
If you are hurting, Love longs to comfort you.
If you are discouraged, Love seeks to delight you.
If you are broken, Love comes to make you whole again.
As we celebrate Advent – the glorious arrival – and ponder Love today, let’s treasure up every moment, every experience, every opportunity to share Love with others.
Let’s slow down and notice the details of perfection in how Love captures our heart and draws us closer.
Let’s remember in awe and wonder the sacrifice Love made for us, as He hung not on a Christmas tree, but on a covenant Tree, so that we could be His forever.
Heavenly Father, thank you for expressing Your love for us by sending Love to us. Help me to ponder and treasure up the glory of Your Son, Jesus, as I celebrate this Advent season with others. Let Love reign in my heart as I draw closer to You. In Jesus’ Name, Amen
