Peace Under Pressure {Giveaway}

Peace Under Pressure {Giveaway}

Update: This week’s giveaway winner is Theresa Gayle Vorreyer! Thanks everyone for participating in the drawing. I’ve loved reading all the comments!

I’m so glad you’ve chosen to share a few minutes of your day with me.

Over at Encouragement for Today, I’m sharing a candid story about one of my grocery-trip-gone-wrong excursions.

It’s just another transparent truth of how I can let the pressures of life mess with me sometimes. In my devo, I mentioned that many times it’s the pressure I put on myself that gets me in trouble. You too? I’m not surprised.

This seems to be a common topic whenever I’m with my friends. We start talking about how busy we are and all we’re doing. Then inevitably someone says they feel guity for not being able to do more. We all shake our heads and agree.

Why do we do that? Why do we expect more out of ourselves than anyone else expects from us?

That kind of internal pressure heaps more emotional weight than we were created to carry and it zaps the peace right out of us.

I’m learning that in order to deal with the pressures of life and remain peace-filled in the process, I have to be willing to pause and ask myself these 3 questions:

1. Is it my responsibility to fix this problem or someone else’s responsibility?

2. Is this an expectation I’m placing on myself or an expectation someone else is placing on me?

3. Is this God’s assignment for me today or an assignment I’ve created on my own.

As I pray through these questions, I ask God to show me the answers. Sometimes a Scripture verse will come to mind and as I meditate on it the self-induced pressure starts to slowly fade as God’s peace settles over my heart.

Although my situation doesn’t instantly change, the way I perceive it definitely does. God’s truth helps me put things into perspective and identify the trigger that’s creating the stress I’m experiencing.

Here’s an example of one of those verses:

“May God give you more and more grace and peace as you grow in your knowledge of Him and Jesus our Lord.”2 Peter 1:2, NLT)

As we take our stressful situations and line them up next to the truth of God’s Word, we discover God’s grace and goodness extends wider and farther than whatever we’re facing.

As we invite God to be a part of this process, He will reassure us that no matter what we’re facing we are not alone.

God is more than willing to help you navigate through every situation you come across today – regardless of how big or small.

Allow God’s peace to replace the stress you’re under and remove the pressure that’s robbing you of His joy today.

  1. I continually over stress myself. My family never ask me to do more than I can, but I put the pressure on myself. This book could help me to de stress and trust God!

  2. Essential !

  3. Gloria Lindsey :

All the time. Yes, all the time I place expectations on myself – some of them warranted, some not so much. But always worrying, working, praying to get “all my ducks in a row.” Thank you so much for your blog concerning this. God is teaching me how to be a better me.

  4. What a timely message! Just what I needed to hear. I am the queen of placing too much pressure on myself. My husband reminds me, more often than he should have to, that I expect too much from myself. I’m pouring, pouring, pouring from a cup that is empty because I stretch myself too thin. I create a people pleasing mentality because I think they expect the same that I expect and I end up selling them short in the long run.

  5. Love, love, love the 3 questions to ask ourselves! ! Need to write these on a note card and post it where I can see it. May need multiple copies of it!! Why does it seem we women are so good at piling ourselves with so much!!?!

  6. Pamela Davis-Leduc :

**** “Not that I have already obtained all this, or have already been made perfect, but I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me. Bothers, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do; Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead. I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus. All of us who are mature should take view of such things. And if you think differently, that too God will make clear to you. Only let us live up to what we have already obtained.”**** My thoughts on this, is I have been there at the store, years ago, and go there in life’s situations He prepares for me. I have obtained this peace and trust in Him.. My reason for response, is that I can use this this gift to minister to myself at times, but more importantly to SOMEONE ELSE. Hopefully they catch on way before I did. Thanks for the chance. Gifts are nice any time. I turn my gifts and blessings into blessings to others wherever He leads me. Got to save as many as we can. Time is of the essence. Need more to be His light to the world. Thank you for your consideration, and may He continue to bless this ministry. God Bless us everyone. PS. I have no idea how to do e books or download, so unless it’s a hard copy, please bless someone else. Happy to supply you with mailing info if it’s His will for this in my life. Peace. Be blessed by the best. Thanks again. Take a break now. God’s got this.

  7. I defenetly needed to hear this!! My everyday job and even church functions sometimes get very stressful!! I have got to remind myself of those 3 questions before taking charge. That way, next time I feel that stress rising up and my adrenaline pumping , I can calm down and not let it steal my joy. Thanx Leah!!

  8. I so needed this, in the midst of my son, his wife and their children moving out of state, repairing our home and preparing for a surgery, my mother decided she needs to move to a different town. I am in turmoil not wanting to anger her, and I came across your email, I am so grateful that you are so transparent. The majority of my stress comes from not saying no and then praying for God to recur me from my mess. I need to rehearse, memorize and practice those 3 questions before I speak, volunteer or try to fix things/ burdens that are not intended for me.

  9. Cindy A Pennell :

This is something that I have been struggling with lately. Perfect timing!

  10. Wendy G Bronson :

Peace is something I always welcome & crave when I don’t have it. The stresses of life rob me of that peace sometimes. Praise God for His patient love & unending peace!

  11. Love that you make yourself vulnerable and share

  12. A lot of days, I am overwhelmed…but God has the plans…thank you for sharing! 🙂

  13. Those questions are so thought provoking. In this time of life the way everything is always in a hurry that I can see myself trying to keep up with the world. The only thing is when we hurry so much we miss seeing our kids developing into what God wants them to be. How I would love to relive that time with my family. Take it nice and slow. Don’t put any stress on me. Be happy within myself. Have lots and lots of quiet times with the kids. Encourage them to say what’s on their minds. Take time to listen to them. Thanks Leah for showing me what God has revealed to you. I may not have as many moments with the kids s I like but I do have my moments with Him.

  14. This sounds like something I can use! Thank you for sharing, glad I’m not alone in this!

  15. What a great reminder. After a recent diagnosis of MS, I’ve been working hard to find that “perfect peace” that God offers all his children.

  16. Lisa Williams :

Peace. Our family has been through so many things over the past ten years, I have found myself trying to keep everything together, keep a smile on my face, tell everyone who asks that I am fine, and trying to take care of everything by myself. Trying. Some days are easier than others but I have learned that I can’t find my own peace. Only God can give me that and I have to let go of worry and thinking too much and allow Him to take care of things. If I can trust Him to hear my prayers and concerns, then He can take those worries and work them out in ways that only He can do. He is limitless and awesome.

  17. After having a Grand Mal seizure back in May which was not caused by epilepsy (shown by in depth testing). I am still trying to medically figure out the cause for the seizure. While God has already shown me through these least 5 months of not being able to drive (still have a few weeks to go) one thing is clear. Stress was a huge factor in bringing whatever health issue is going on to the surface. I would love to win this package. Whenever stress and anxiety are creeping into my heart and head I repeat to myself over and over “be still, be still, God’s got this” It would be wonderful to have a beautiful reminder hanging from my wall to ‘be still’ 🙂

  18. I really needed this today. I’m interested in your book! As a mom of 3 teenagers, a teacher, Sunday School teacher, cheer coach & Pastor’s Wife, I need balance! And the women in my Women’s ministry would benefit from your book. God bless your ministry!

  19. Needed this today – God’s promise of peace if I trust Him and fix my thoughts on Him. Who am I trying to please? Is my stress caused by the demands I put on myself?
    Thank you for this.

  20. This hits is dead on for what I am dealing with. Already raised 2 kids now 23 and 27 and have aging parents that are in fairly good health for their age I find myself a soon to be 49 year old divorcee trying to date a man that my family despises because I dated him for 5 yrs. over 4 yrs. ago. It was an ugly break up but through it all and atime apart we have managed to find each other again but I am ton between trying to make my family happy and trying to make myself happy.

  21. Andrea Rohrwasser :

Thanks for sharing some great “real” stories and Isiah 26:3 which is a verse I have put to memory and has been in my thoughts and prayers for years now. It really hits home when I see and hear that this verse also touches many other peoples lives.

  22. Gretchen Scoleri :

Oh pick me! 🙂 this seems to be a theme verse the lord has used in my life over the years and rh plaque would be a lovely reminder!!

  23. Hi, I read your devotional about the pizza, smiled, I just finished a Canadian Thanksgiving nightmare! Where I was the perfectionist for my kids,-18 & 20 who came with my ex-husband late for dinner. By the time they showed up I was frustrated and in tears. I had hoped for a nice, friendly dinner, calm, peacefull and friendly, instead I was stressed, couldn’t find peace as I prayed inwardly, felt totally hostile towards my ex, whom I thought I had forgiven and felt antongistic words coming from my 20 yr old. It all ended right after they ate, my eldest said he wanted to leave.
I felt hurt, very rejected, torn and unloved. My eldest, now in colleges told me to not text him as he won’t be returning my messages, I don’t know if he was kidding or not. My ex-said nothing, no thank you’s, my youngest cried with me. I was totally broken as they left.
I don’t know how to deal with this. I don’t know how to get through this these emotions.
If my pizza fell, I would have just stood there and cried what other bad things could happen to me today. Any suggestions?

  24. Your post and giveaway couldn’t be more perfectly timed for me right now, when life is feeling rather turned upside down and stress threatens to drown out all peace. Thank you for sharing your heart and wisdom.

  25. The Lord always leads us to the right things to read at just the right times. I’ve allowed a lot of pressures in life to rob me of my joy. Thank you for sharing your story about your recent grocery store disaster. It reminded me so much of myself & how I have a tendency to stress over things I want to do to serve my family well. My perfectionist personality has always driven me to expect more of myself than is even possible to do in a given day. Thank you so much for the reminder in Psalm 46. The Lord has been bringing that same Scripture up over & over in various things I’ve been reading. I am getting a clear picture of how frenzied my life has been and how I have not taken the time to be still before Him!

  26. Oh my this is exactly what I needed to read this evening!!! Thank you, thank you, thank you! I love the three questions. I think I need to write them on an index card and carry it around with me

  27. Bobbi Wineberg :

Being too busy a lot, those are 3 very good questions I need to ask and then answer and let God lead.

  28. So glad God lead me to your Encouragement for Today. It spoke right to my heart. I love the three questions and look forward to reading your book!
    Thank you and God Bless!

  29. I’m newly divorced. I have expectations I pit on myself to do everything. Of course it’s not all going as planned. Putting together a chair two holes didnt line up. A drill was required and I don’t work drills. I hurt a finger in the past. And today I tried to change a turn signal light. Pretty basic to most but I broke a part. I’m learnimg to realize my limits. But due to a limited budget I need to learn these things. It’s just frustrating being out of my element. Not being in control and doing those things I’m not always comfortable with.

  30. Trusting God through all situations is something I still struggle with. As soon as I am faced with a high stress situation my heart gets filled with anxiety and I begin to feel nervous. The weight on my shoulders become unbearable. I am so glad I read this article because it is a great reminder that God is the prince of peace and I can leave all my worries and burdens to him. Jesus can turn my anxiety into peace and joy!

  31. I’ve been begging God for peace for the last 5 years but I forgot one thing to accept it. God offered it and as he offered it to me I looked at it shook my head and said no way that can’t be it, I got to do this my own way. Oh Jesus help me

  32. I so needed this. We live paycheck to paycheck. Today I had to take one the girls to dentist & it was supposed to be $450, & I was stressing over that & another daughter is having eye problems, which could be $100 or more. This is more than we usually have. Dentist cost $245 & gotta go back in a couple weeks for more work. Thank God, it wasn’t as bad as I was expecting! Finances aren’t that Great! God always takes care of us! God has provided my husband to help someone sometimes in a 2nd job not counting his main job. I have 4 girls- ages 18, 15, 7, & 3. It’s always crazy around my house & I get stressed so easy because there is always alot going on in my house. I try not to show it but my husband & oldest 2 know when I am. My work isn’t like it used to be. My hours have been cut, so I am praying about if God wants me to stay or go to a different job.

  33. Thank you for sharing! That control thing is sure a hard thing to let go of and let God take over. I will definitely use the three questions along with the truths in God’s word.

  34. Ah. This came at a perfect time. Today was crazy hectic and I told my husband living at break neck speed isn’t cutting it. I’m burning out. I so needed this reminder. I can’t give into the pressure and demands of others. But need to have flexibility to be able to do God’s assignment. Thanks for sharing and being so transparent. I’m not alone.

  35. Yes, I will definitely be writing the 3 questions down and place them where I can be reminded daily! As a matter of fact I am going to also write Psalms 46:10 on the same card! 🙂 ❤

  36. I have to remind myself all the time to “cease striving” and to “BE STILL” and know that God has it all in His hands.

  37. Michele Eckhardt :

today’s devotion couldn’t have come at a better time for me…. a reminder to “Let go, and Let GOD!” Thank you for reminding me that I am not really in charge!

  38. I needed to be reminded of this during a most difficult time causing extreme stress. Thank you!

  39. Thank you for sharing your story, I really needed to hear this! I have a chronic illness and need to stop doing too many things for the able bodied people in my family. I know they will help if I ask, I just have to let go of my need to be in control of everything. Love the 3 questions too!

  40. Really appreciate the 3 questions! Way too often, I get caught up trying to do what others expect of me (people-pleaser syndrome) and then wonder why I feel so burned out & discontented. Thanks for the chance to win the wall-plaque & book.

  41. Dawnielle Alden :

Thank you for the post. I share these kinds with our Women’s Group at Church. I am also examining what is mine to do, and what isn’t mine.

  42. I definitely need that reminder verse in my house so I can look at it every morning, and night. I need to learn how to live with less stress in my life. I’m sure my family would appreciate it.

  43. Having Peace is very important in ourlives and that is what God gives us in the midst of it all for those of us who seek him. Would love to win this book and know more about his peace.

  44. Thank you for those questions you posted. As I think about life I realize that it’s always me that puts me in the position of who it will effect the most. Right now I’m stressing so much in my life I’m starting to have panic attacks. I don’t know how to deal with them. I’ve already damaged my health wanting to be the perfect size and that didn’t work. I just obsess over my weight issues knowing if I could just be happy the way I am everything else would fall into place. These panic attacks are rough to get through. God has set me free, why can’t I? Thanks for listening.

  45. Thank you for this post today! I have been living under what I am pretty sure is self inflicted stress. I am currently working through the online Bible study of Stressed Less Living with Tracie Miles. By now you would think that I should know better than to be so hard on myself, and put so much pressure on my own shoulders. This past weekend I ended up in the ER with an ulcer flare up, and a very high blood pressure of 200/103. I have got to start leaning more on God! Psalms 46:10 has always been my favorite, and I repeat it often. I just need to learn how to turning it all over to Him, and to remember To Be Still and Know that He is God! ❤

  46. I love this – as I’m dealing with chronic illness, I find that people are more than happy to give me responsibilities that aren’t truly mine. May God give me the strength to know if a task is truly mine, and, if it’s not, the grace to decline it.

  47. Such a peaceful reminder that God is in control. I know myself gets easily frazzled in life and overwhelmed but have to remember to trust in God and grow in his word. Thanks for sharing.

  48. Thank you for letting God speak through you to me today. I needed this message. I desire to crave God’s peace more than control or perfection.

  49. Thank you so much for your devotion. Everyday it seems as I am racing to get the next thing accomplished. I have to scratch off another thing on my list. I really needed to hear this today. Thank you for the reminder.

  50. I needed to read this today! Lately, most of what I have stumbled across, whether on blogs or in my Bible study groups has been about peace. And I sure do need God’s peace in my life. Thank you for your post; you are making a difference.

  51. RoseMarie Schmidt :

God is definitely trying to get my attention. I arrive at my location and don’t remember the trip. I went to a retreat last week and went on a prayer walk. As I am walking on a trail I walked by some flowers and the smell was so overwhelming that I had to go back and smell the flowers. Stop and enjoy God’s beauty.

  52. Love today’s post. One of my biggest struggles is to be still. For some odd reason…….well, not so odd if you knew my personality…..I completely stopped “being still” and started trying to resolve everything on my own. I’m sure I don’t need to tell you that didn’t work.

Well, I’m getting back on the “Be Still” treadmill and this was a great booster. Thank you!

  53. RoseMarie Schmidt :

Thank you for this reminder. I have so much on my mind that I arrive at my location and don’t remember the trip. I was at a retreat last week and went on a prayer walk. Walked down a path and the smell of flowers was so overwhelming that I had to back track, stop and smell the flowers. God is trying to get my attention.

  54. This verse has been my foundation during the storm I’ve been in the last 6-1/2 months. I can’t say that I’ve heeded these words every minute of every day since, but when I meditate on them I am filled with such peace. I am learning what it is to “Be Still…”

  55. Oh, my goodness! That post was just for me. I am always putting too much pressure on myself for the way I think things need to be done. I would love to be able to reduce the stress in my life (I don’t handle it very well). Thank you for being so transparent with your life and letting me know I’m not the only one out there who does this!

  56. Yes! Great questions! As long as I am shining my light for His glory, not my own, then I am confident He guides my path. Staying close to Him is the key to peace.

  57. It’s no coincidence that this post came out on a Monday! Thank you for the reminder. Thank you for the specific questions to pray on. This is an area of struggle for many women – and one I’ve been working to tackle for some time now. It’s hard not to fall back to old habits of being a “yes” gal…even when we know the consequence is exhaustion and lack of peace.

  58. So loved and needed this today!!!! I have written down the ? And taped them inside my kitchen cabinet! Running a million miles an hour like us all…. I am determined to slow down and find peace in my daily pressures!

  59. I have always wanted things to be “perfect”. It use to rule me. After my husband left us, I have realized nothing is perfect. Except for God! I have to give it over to him everyday but his peace feels so good. I had “be still” tattooed on my arm so I could see it everyday as a reminder that God is in control.

  60. We all need this. I would so love for my daughter to have this. She has a lot of stress in her life as she serves Jesus!

  61. Milagros Milliner :

This post is such a blessing! When it comes to my children, I often put tremendous pressure on myself to solve every single problem. It creates anxiety, and I lose focus on The Lord who is committed to help in any situation. Thank you for sharing this moment of peace and truth to strengthen me through the journey of life.

  62. Natalie Ringgenberg :

Thank your for sharing this devotional…just what I needed to be reminded of as I begin this week. Is 26:3 is a favorite of mine. I’m writing it down and putting it somewhere it can be seen as I start each new day.

  63. I keep turning my worries over to God and then taking them back. Thank you for the giveaway.

  64. So relevant today.
    Thank you!!

  65. Judy Westmorelanf :

Words that I needed to hear. Am going through some problems with my back. Going for X-Ray tomorrow. Relying on Jesus, my solid rock.

  66. So true! I want everything to to be wonderful for my children. And with a son on a special diet, I often try to make his food in advance that he can eat all week, since I often work late. I put a lot of pressure on myself to make sure everyone else is happy and healthy, but I am often exhausted and not get proper exercise! But I thank God for all that He provides and thank Him for people like you who remind us of what is important! And what is not! God Bless you!

  67. Thank you for sharing your thoughts today! I needed this badly! The three questions are some I needed to have asked myself many times. I feel overwhelmed–because I put too much pressure on myself to do everything and do it perfectly. God will take care of it–He has promised to do this. I can’t “fix” everything–only He can do all that and more than we can ever think or imagine! Thank you again and I really NEED to read the book over and over and over again!

  68. Praise God for the wisdom He gives you to help others!

  69. Elaine Segstro :

I feel stress worrying about my older son and his choices. I try to give it over to God but the stress still nags at my heart. I would love to read your book.

    • Robert Williams, Jr. :

We can never understand God’s ways or what He does. We must trust Him even though we don’t understand. God will always lead you in the right direction.

  70. I don’t know how my brain chose to believe that it was paramount for my life to make a difference on this earth 24/7. Others’ happiness, hearing the words – “Great job, Jane – How were you able to do all of that?”, “Oh, you don’t have to clean the toilets in my house after the party!” – okay, so the last one was just a throw-in. Going above and beyond space and time, making sure everyone’s needs were met even before the words could be formed and leave their lips – now, that’s living!!! I’ve retired from 30+ years of teaching. We have a 5-year-old grandson who has entered our lives. He has opened my heart to the fact that I spent way too many years, months, days, hours, minutes and seconds focusing on the wrong “stuff” in my life. I am just now learning how to breathe in God’s wisdom, fill my lungs with His oxygen, view life as short-term and use His glasses to see that His plan for me includes a peace that passes all understanding. My job? Share the saving grace of Christ with others while my earthly clock’s alarm is still silent. Sadly, I have managed to pass on my weaknesses to our daughters. Hopefully, they will be able to see the error of their ways before their alarms go off.

  71. Feeling every day the pressures of ordinary life happenings can be overwhelming.
Letting Jesus take control lessens all the despairs of the heart. Thank you for sharing these verses with me.

  72. The 3 questions you shared in your blog is what I needed most! Praise God for the wisdom He gives you & all the writers in P31 ministries! Great devotion! Thanks for sharing! Sweet blessings to all!

  73. I am my own enemy because of the pressure I put on myself just to try to prevent pressure on others. Insanity. Lord help me to live in Your peace!

  74. Jessica Mitchell :

A wonderful devotion and great questions for us to ask ourselves! I often find myself in a place of being stressed. I am a Children’s Minister and also a Master’s Student. I find that I place a lot of expectations on myself. I feel as though no matter what we do we often find ourselves placing those expectations on ourself. So I am thankful for those three questions and will hope I can remember to look at them and realize that I can’t always fix the problem or I can’t always do everything.

  75. Thank you for sharing this morning’s devo…feeling convicted as I hear the ring of truth as it echoes my husband’s, co-workers’, and doctor’s recent comments. They have stated their concerns and my body physiologically shows the evidence of the stress I place upon myself but I blew them off and just kept placing more expectations on myself. In this morning’s quiet I read your devotion and prayed for perseverance to live differently.

  76. Stacy Fortenberry :

Dropping some “emotional weight” and leaning into Abba Father’s plan for each day…YES! I want His plan and I want to be so close to Him that I hear His perfect way. LOVE this devo and I would love to read STRESSED LESS.

  77. As I read the other comments on this post, I know that other’s also have a stress and anxious life. I pray each day that I do Gods work, but sometimes it’s my work, not his. I pray that God, Our Heavenly Father will help me in this quest.

  78. Hi Friends! I’ve enjoyed reading your comments this morning and I’m seeing a common thread amongst us. Striving for perfection, people pleasing and putting too much pressure on ourselves to perform are 3 triggers that can definitely zap the joy and energy right out of us!

I want to challenge you today to write down those 3 questions I included in my post and keep them handy, so that next time you become aware of that stress-induced pressure you can invite God into your situation and allow Him to help you filter out what’s creating stress in your life. If I can do it, so can you. 🙂

  79. A much needed reminder today. Thanks.

  80. Thank you!!! I really needed that encouragement!

  81. I never realized that the pressure I was feeling was coming from myself! Your blog made me step back and look for all those people who were (in my mind) waiting and watching for me to get all the “super mom/wife” things done…..there was only me! I’m releasing that pressure and receiving peace right now in Jesus’name!

  82. Wow – I really needed this today as I started my day with a 6am teleconference after rushing my husband out the door for work. I know that much of the demand I feel a need to accomplish is what I put on myself. I feel a demand to be perfect and do more even when no one has specifically put that demand on me and I’m trying to learn how to stop that inner – self- demanding that is wearing me down physically, emotionally, and relationally

  83. I really enjoyed your message this morning! I received an email from Bible Gateway with your devo about your shopping trip and it lead me here!
I feel as if God was really speaking to me through you this morning. I am guilty of always putting pressure on myself because I worry WAY to much about what others think of me. I want to be perfect for everyone in every situation, and many times it ends up with me getting frustrated and stressed and not enjoying the moment. Things rarely go as I planned anyway.
I’m going to hang a copy of the Bible verses you shared somewhere where I will see them multiple times throughout my day to help remind me to truly lean on God and what His Will is for my life.
Thank you so much for sharing this message this morning!

  84. This hit home with me. Definitely needed to hear this. Thank you.

  85. Such true words and such an easy thing to remember! Now just to put it to practice. Thanks for the words today. A great way to start off the school & work week.

  86. Such a beautiful reminder that I don’t have to be perfect because God loves me right where I am. And one of my most favorite verses Is 26:3.

  87. I really needed this reminder this morning. I woke up feeling anxious about the day ahead and your words help me to put my day in perspective and God’s peace.

  88. We tend to be more “do-ers” than “be-ers” as women and your post reminds me that I tend to take control of things, attempting in vain to master situations on my own, instead of entrusting them to God and asking Him for wisdom! I’m praying for God’s gentle reminders to invite Him in to my daily events, in advance, and be lead by His voice of wisdom to know how I should be and what, if necessary, I should do.

  89. I really needed this today. I need to put the verse up somewhere along with the questions so I can see them every day!

  90. I definitely needed this today! I have been in an overwhelmed world the past 6+ months as my marriage is in crisis and the outlook seems bleak. Working on keeping my heart focused on God as He has the plan for my journey… even when I never saw this in my path. Keeping the faith!

  91. I often seem to give myself too many assignments! Thank you for helping me put things into a realistic yet supernatural perspective this morning. Great way to start my week!

  92. Your devotion and blog post really spoke to me today. I will also be writing down the three questions listed here along with the verses to look back on when I am struggling with expecting perfection from myself as I struggle with this often.

  93. Perfect message and encouragement for me today and this week. A reminder that I need to slow down and listen for God’s instructions.
    Thank you.

  94. Thank you for sharing with us today. I need God’s peace!!!!

  95. Be STILL…sounds so simple, yet so often challenging and difficult for many of us to do. I struggle with DOing for God instead of just BEing with Him, which is what I should always do first, so that I can know what, how and when to do for HIM…

Thank you for making this giveaway available!

    Have a BLESSed Monday everyone!!

  96. Janice Bezler :

Thank you for your wisdom. Even in the wee hours of the morning, Jesus is there waiting with a word which speaks directly into situations. The book looks exactly what I need right now, I’m failing terribly. ..actually I’m failing fantastically. Thank God for His love and mercies.

  97. I really thing analyzing the three points when deciding if it is me putting pressure on myself or if God desires for me to take on this issue is important.

  98. Thank you Lord for this post and Your Word. We found out last week our youngest is on the autism (awesome-ism) spectrum. I now have a 3 pg assignment sheet of therapies and appts to make for her. We also have another daughter I homeschool/co teach and it’s my first yr for that. Plus, I run a girls faith based service and mentoring organization weekly. But God is the one in charge ultimately and I’m so grateful for His perfect peace. Thank you for the chance.

  99. Thanks for this lesson on peace. Recently, my life has been a roller coaster because of the assignments I have taken on myself instead of leaving them for God to handle. I am praying for peace.

  100. Amen to this! I know that God isn’t expecting me to do this all by myself. I put the most pressure on myself. Thanks for sharing your story!

  101. Silly as it sounds , our cat is missing. We miss her so much we have searched and searched. Even been up until 1 and 2 in the am just hoping she will wander back in the darkness. I know it seems so silly but I can’t stop worrying about her. I want to give it to God and have peace but then at what point do I stop searching??? It has been over 2 weeks.

  102. Why is it so hard to slow down? Thanks for the reminder and tips. Much needed.

  103. I love the verse you posted. We can have God’s peace but he asks us to fix our thoughts on Him. The book looks awesome.

  104. Deanne Metzloff :

Love this post. It’s so easy to get bogged down and lose sight of God’s purpose for us!

  105. Cammi Hevener :

Such a great reminder to start my day! My job can be so hectic and I just need to step back sometimes and take a deep breath and feel peace..

  106. Good reminder!

  107. Wow! When God has message for you He uses every avenue possible to get it into your thick stubborn head! I LOVE it! This us the second devotional I have read this morning sbout this subject. I’m thinking He’s trying to tell me something. Oh how I love Him, and so thankful that He hasn’t given up on me…..,

  108. I often find myself to the point of breaking down before I can give up any of the stress. I just feel so alone sometimes that I long for anyone to say its alright. Why do I not find my peace even when I know it is there for others. I feel like I am searching in the wrong place. Even church service made me feel more alone yesterday as they played songs from my dad’s funeral and the pastor is leaving. HELP.

  109. Ralee McLaughlin :

Great reminder that when we become anxious or stressed it is usually because of our own expectations we put on ourself not the expectations of our family.

  110. Thank you so much for sharing this story, and the wisdom you’ve learned. I so needed this today! With 4 daughters, ranging in age from 19-7, I constantly find myself in a losing battle trying to please everyone, keep everyone happy. It’s impossible! This morning I prayed about this very thing. These 3 questions and the Scripture verses will definitely help 🙂

  111. Father God, thank you for reminding me that I’m not alone in this stressful place. You are my rock and I can do all things thru You Father who strengthens me. I’m humbly grateful for your unconditional love, mercy and your son Jesus Christ. In Him, all things are perfect.

  112. Melisa Schlunt :

Perfect words for today. I have seen the words trust pop up so many times from different people. I will reflect and contemplate trust. I almost lost an important opportunity to go on a walking pilgrimage because my car started to give me problems you see I was supposed to be one of the drivers. A couple of people offered to drive and they told me that God will provide to trust in him.

  113. What timely encouragement from the LORD! After spending time in prayer with my husband this morning and seeking God’s wisdom on a particular situation we are facing, I felt compelled to go to the Proverbs 31 website and the daily devotion caught my eye. Truly, it was like it was written just for me! A perfectly timed reminder that God is control of all things. Thank you!

  114. I know of one women in my life that needs those questions and book. Life is wonderful and I also will need to write those questions down and pray into them.
thank you so much for your wisdom

  115. These words could not have came at a better time for me. I struggle daily with feeling like I’m constantly trying to meet expectations and keep everyone happy. I am a people pleaser and a perfectionist so I bring a lot of stress on myself. Thank you for your words of wisdom! I’m going to memorize these questions 🙂

  116. I’m coming to realize that peace (and all things good) is God’s grace. He has the infusion ready but I have to make the connection, do my part, as you reminded: trust Him and keep my thoughts fixed on Him. Thank you for the reminder.

  117. Leah Eernisse :

Thanks for the great devotion! Part of our message at church yesterday was about letting God have complete control and taking our hands off the wheel so that He can drive. This devotion is further confirmation to me that it is time for God take have complete control of my family and I. I am looking forward to the Peace that will come now that my hands are free and He is in control. Thanks so much!!!

  118. God always knows what we need. It is not coincidental that I am reading your PS 31 devotion before I return from a four day weekend vacation, that the peace I felt is robbed by thoughs of expectations I have of myself and those I imagine others have of me. Thank you for being God’s instrument?

  119. God speaks to us in so many ways and He spoke to me through this. I continually rush through each day and then wonder why I am in such a mess. I need to slow down, take my time and not have to redo so many tasks. I need to enjoy life more. Thank you so much for writing and sharing with your readers.

  120. Wonderful words for a Monday morning with a reminder of where to direct our thoughts – thanks!

  121. I was praying to God on the way to work today looking for a way to stop trying to control my life (family, finances, etc.) and just laying it down for him to handle. This is what God brought me today. Thank you so much for your words.

  122. BE STILL AND KNOW THAT I AM GOD. I love that verse. My stress Redeemer!

  123. Thank you for this awesome devotion today! Expectations I place on myself are the cause of daily anxiety. Proverbs 31 devotionals help me keep life in perspective and look to God for ways to serve rather than my own “to do” list. The peace this brings is awesome!

  124. Thank you for reminding us that God’s peace surpasses the world’s peace.

  125. This a good reminder to not live to please others but to live for the glory of my Heavenly Father. To keep my mind adjusting to His will and not running ahead in my own.

  126. Just the Word that I needed today. Thanks for being the messenger.

  127. I found this blog from the link on P31, and what a find! Thank you for encouragement on a Monday morning.

  128. Thank you Lord for giving us peace beyond understanding. “Life’s been a journey. I’ve seen joy, I’ve seen regret. Oh and You have been my God through all of it.”

  129. Beverly Hootman :

I am having rushing thoughts for hurting friends today. I was also reflecting on the things in my own life. Your three steps helped me to slow down my thoughts and reflect them back onto God and his word. Thank you

  130. “Oftentimes, it’s not what my family asks of me — it’s what I demand of myself: I want everything to be perfect. I want to meet all my family’s needs. I want to please everyone.” Wow – this statement describes me to a “T”. I’m thankful for today’s devotion and will remember these verses in times of stressful situations. I believe this common thread is present in most women – we want to be the perfect wife, mother, friend, co-worker. If we focus our eyes upon Him, we can have the peace that helps us get through each day.

  131. Thank you for this post. I feel overwhelmed almost every day.

  132. God used your words to speak to speak to me today. I feel the pressure to be perfect to often. When the storms of life hit, I have to consciously seek Him as my guide.

  133. I love reading about your struggles, the same as most of us. They are funny, as is a lot of life situations, and yet very true to how humans are. I am an older woman, I have diabetes and I worry about how to pay for my needed medication. I am stressing on that!!! But, I am trying not to worry, I am letting go, and letting God. Sometimes, that is all we have. God bless you as you continue in your life’s journey. Peace!

  134. This was perfect timing! I woke up with my brain swirling, and heart crying for peace. My prayers this morning all centered around desiring that perfect peace only found in The Lord. Reading this has clarified where some of my struggles are rooted. Thank you!

  135. Those 3 questions put it all in perspective. .. thank you Leah for sharing your tools of success when dealing with self induced pressures.

  136. I can so relate to your post today having had frenzied moments like yours happen to me..today my girls are off of school and I am in the middle of season-change for clothes for them, which means bins everywhere to put away! Feeling very overwhelmed by that job and life in general as I also manage daily chronic pain. I had just written that verse on a chalkboard in my kitchen last week..so need that verse and God’s peace and grace (as I call myself a “frustrated perfectionist”!)

  137. An aptly spoken word. Thanks for giving us three questions to help sift what is truly important and what we have added into our lives.

  138. It seems that more and more as I’ve gotten older and my responsibilities have increased, I’ve sought God’s peace and help less and less. That’s definitely the opposite reaction I should have to more stress in my life. Many days, I feel like I can barely function. I don’t even have children! How do people do it, I often wonder? Thank you for this reminder that God’s peace is available to us if we will allow Him to give it to us. Looking forward to taking the 3 questions and seeking God’s peace each day!

  139. Great message for today. I get so caught up in my own expectations that I add extra stress to my days. Thank you for reminding me how and where too find peace.

  140. This topic has been on my heart as of late. Needing to slow down and trust God. Let life be what God is working it to be and realizing that I am not in control. Thank you for this wonderful reminder

  141. I can so relate with the expectations we place on ourselves. I could use this book and would share it with my teens.

  142. I needed this encouragement today. I feel like I am stressed out about several things I am facing today. I plan to meditate on the verses and depend on God for strength and wisdom.

  143. So timely!! I began a couple bible’s study last night and my prayer request was to learn how to better cope with a family situation. Your 3 questions really hit home! I tend to be a “fixer” and probably place a lot of expectations on myself to fix things when after reading the 3 questions it occurred to me that I don’t need to “fix” everything but instead pray and trust God.
    Thank you!!

  144. What a blessing your message was this morning! I am sharing with my daughter, who is in college. We both suffer from anxiety brought on by worrying. I want to hold on to this message as a wonderful reminder to trust God FIRST.

  145. I had been tossing and turning and grabbed my iPhone to check my emails. I see first the daily devotion from Proverbs 31 Ministries and read this about peace. God provides!! I have some projects to finish amidst alit of busyness. Thank you for the reminder to call upon God in times like this.

  146. Great reminder that I need God’s guidance in my day! That verse has always been a favorite.

  147. Sleepless nights, the the overwhelming feeling of how can I do it all. You post is perfectly timed as I begin my week.

  148. I must remember to let God do his work and stop trying to do it myself so I can be better at what He wants me to be.

  149. Shannon Ledford :

I desperately need peace in my life and my house. To be perfectly honest I have a four year old who can drive the peace and bring the crazy right out of me. I will be copying these verses and putting them around me – and continuing to pray that God would allow His peace to reign over me and my house.

  150. Deborah Daigle :

I truly start each day with the Lord but oh how I fall on my face when problems arise. I really needed to read these scriptures today…I need to pause before I react. I need to trust that God will give me the words or seal my lips. I will print out those 3 questions…maybe tattoo them on my hand.

  151. I really needed this today! I have a job interview today. Over the last year I’ve had quite a few so you would think that by now it would feel routine, but something about this one makes me more anxious and stressed. I’m sure a lot of it is the pressure that it’s been a year of this process and I’m ready for, and need for, this period to stop. I’ve been praying for God’s peace the last few days and this is just the devotional I needed to hear in preparation for the day ahead. Praise God that He has a good plan for my life and He has worked out every detail of that plan faithfully and He is in control of that plan all the time! I will rest in the truth of His Word and find peace.

  152. This is the first time I’ve read your blog. It was a wonderful way to get my day started. The questions you ask yourself are ones I need to ask myself. thank you for giving me more time to get more God in my day.

  153. Rita Stephens :

Thank you for being so real. It’s great to know I’m not the only one who has those pizza moments. I would love to have your book to read!

  154. “Is this God’s assignment for me today or an assignment I’ve created on my own”… that truly made me stop in my haste this morning and think… think about why I, after my plea to God this morning for support I was so moved to check out Proverbs 31’s daily devotion today, follow the link to your blog and to read the words I needed to embrace.
I can relate to the inner pressure to please everyone, and to always feel I am coming up short in an area… as a mother, wife, professional; something is always left undone. Rather than see that as daily failures I need to reassess just whose expectation it is, and whose assignment it is. When I pause and ask God for His perfect assignment, and make that the priority, then I can feel peace knowing I have put Him first, where He always belongs, and a let His goals unfold before me as I humbly serve as His instrument. Thank you.

  155. Wonderful devotion. I often find myself creating my own stress. Thank you for the reminder that God is always there with me and that I can still have peace.

  156. Melanie Wheeler :

I am actually amazed some days at how quickly my ‘control’ can go from high level to nothing in a matter of minutes – what I mean is some days I am moving along smoothly in “life” and I’m amazed at how little it seems to take to derail me. Satan is quick. Satan moves fast and I think he often does that to me to catch me off guard, knowing I will handle stuff better if I am prepared so he forces me to feel unprepared.

The beautiful thing though is that as soon as I feel that coming on all I have to do is take a breath and grab a verse that reminds me of what I should do next….maybe 2 Chronicles 20:3 where Jehoshaphat is alarmed but resolves to inquire of God. There are clear steps in this chapter through vs 21 of how to grab onto God and in the end Give Thanks to the Lord for his love endures forever!

  157. Such a timely message for me today! Lately, life has seemed more and more stressful, with me feeling less and less in control; I would love to read your book!

  158. As I have recently lost my job I carry a lot of stress and fears with me. I truly needed to read this. Thank you for sharing and reminding me that God is always with me.

  159. Thank you for your words of encouragement and direction. My daughter is going through some big medical problems right now & doctors having trouble diagnosing and treating. Trusting God our healer but some days are more difficult than others and as mom just want to “fix” it.

  160. This really spoke to my heart today. I always find my self rushing to get things done & to please other people & am then consumed with anxiety & stress. I need to learn to slow down & use your three steps & to let God be in control & show me the way at times.

  161. Love your ideas. Those 3 questions will go everywhere with me. Thank you for sharing.

  162. This spoke volumes to me today! So on time! I need to learn to let go and let God! Thank you for sharing!

  163. Shirley berry :

Can so relate to the shopping story you shared. Would enjoy reading your book to get insight and hope that I don’t have to continue feeling rushed every day and then frustrated.
    Bless you!

  164. So on time for me – great word to start my week! Thank you for sharing

  165. Lauren Saiyad :

This just spoke to my heart this morning. I’ve been struggling with depression which stems from anxiety, people-pleasing and perfectionism It’s a daily struggle to remind myself that God is sovereign and in complete control and I only need to trust in Him and He will take care of my worries. It’s a great reminder that the only true peace comes from Him and not from anything within my control.

  166. Sometimes it’s hard not to feel overwhelmed. I’m constantly reminding myself to let God take control as He is bigger than whatever I am facing.

  167. Awesome wisdom! I’m going to write down those 3 questions and hang it up where I can see and pray through them daily!
