I didn’t mean to stare, but I couldn’t help it.
After exchanging a quick smile, she continued placing grocery bags into her cart, while my eyes glanced back at her arms.
Tattoos covered every inch of skin from her shoulders to her tiny wrists.
Images of hearts, religious symbols, quotes and names of those I imaged she loved deeply over the years.
Some had faded with time while others popped with fresh, bold colors. Forever inscribed by the permanent ink of a tattoo machine.
It was obvious she had a passion for art and a close relationship with a trusted tattoo artist.
If I ever wanted to get a tattoo, how could I possibly decide on one design?
As she gathered her things and left the store, I wondered about the sting of the tattoo gun and how it must have hurt.
Lord, if I was brave enough to go through the pain, where should my special tattoo be placed?
Then this verse came to mind:
The LORD declares, “I will put My teaching within them and write {inscribe, engrave} it on their hearts. I will be their God, and they will be My people.” Jeremiah 31:33
As a little grin emerged deep from within my soul, I pictured my heart covered with hundreds of tattoos.
Engraved scripture verse placed ever so carefully with great detail.
Some were faded by years of memorization. Weathered by life’s trials.
Others stained with bold, fresh colors. Recently tattooed within the last year.
A couple verses incomplete and in need of final touches.
As life moves on and years come and go, I want the Master Artist to continue etching His Word on my heart until every inch is covered.
Although my tattoos aren’t visible for everyone to see, I know they are there and that’s all that matters to me.
It’s Your Turn~
Has the Master Artist engraved a few scripture tattoos on your heart? If so, which ones are faded from years gone by? Which ones are new and bold with fresh ink?

Leah,
Love this ….. I’ve joked around with a couple of friends about getting a tattoo without ever realizing that I already had plenty!
Thank you for this.
Love ya,

I love this Leah…the idea of God’s Word tattooed on my heart! Also brings Proverbs 3:3 to mind – “write them on the tablet of your heart” – oh to keep doing that as the years go by!
To answer your question, yes He’s etched His Word on my heart. Just today on my blog I shared about a verse He used to speak to me years ago about writing and ministry, but lately He’s been using it to speak to me as a Mom. The Word truly is alive!!
I also wanted to thank you for the conference calls I won her for the Living So That study. I was blessed by each one and really appreciated the FB page that was also a part of it.
Blessings to you!

Jill, I love how God is giving you a fresh perspective of 2 Timothy 4:5 as He guides you in the role of mom for your 5 precious children. I’d imagine this verse might even be etched onto your heart in 3-D living color! I’m glad you enjoyed the conference calls during the Living So That OBS series. 🙂
