Cravings That Control Us

When I was pregnant with our firstborn son, I craved fruits and vegetables…UNTIL I reached the eighth month of my  pregnancy.

It was winter time and suddenly, all I could think about was Blue Bell’s Peppermint Stick ice-cream. Little peppermint chunks churned together with creamy vanilla loveliness.

For some strange reason I craved it in the worst way. Maybe it was a pregnancy hormone imbalance sort of thing.

I became a highly hormonal pregnant woman on a mission, calling local grocery stores, searching for the coveted concoction of creamy-delicousness.

All I could think about – from the moment I woke up until it was time to go to bed – was peppermint stick ice-cream. Oh, and it had to be Blue Bell. No other brand would do. Go figure?

A month later our son was born and the cravings stopped. I never touched another bowl of Blue Bell Peppermint Sick ice cream again.

What do you crave?

Cravings. We all have them. I know I do. What are you craving today?

Pizza. Nachos. Brownies. Soft drinks. Coffee. And when do you crave things? At night while you’re watching t.v.? Throughout the day? As soon as you wake up?

Unleashed cravings can turn into extra unwanted pounds and bigger waistlines. If we’re not careful, cravings can control us. 

Putting the brakes on cravings or bad eating habits can be difficult. We try for a couple days, maybe a week or two, saying “no” to our cravings. We stay strong at first then give in to what we know we shouldn’t have.

Tackling our cravings alone can be tough. To be successful we need to have some accountability. That’s why I want to tell you about the Made To Crave Online Bible Study which is being offered through Proverbs 31 Ministries.   1. My cravings are whatever “goodie” goes along with each holiday. My problem is portion control. If you want to call it a craving, it would be coffee; I have a 36 oz mug that I drink coffee out of. I make a cup when I get up and a cup when I get home from work. On my days off, I can drink 4-5 cups.

  2. So funny – wrote a post today about chocolate covered marshmallow eggs! My plan is to switch grocery shops until after easter!
