I could feel her small fingertips tugging at the hem of my blouse and before I could look down, those same little fingers were tapping at my waist side, requesting my immediate attention. The air around me was filled with children’s chatter. Hundreds of little voices, all creating a melody that enveloped the large room I was in. I was completely distracted and slightly overwhelmed. Yet, once again, the tugging continued.
Finally, I glanced downward to connect with a pair of crystal blue eyes, waiting patiently to connect with mine. They belonged to a little girl named Jessica. A five year old kindergartener who was participating in a children’s program at my church last week.
Jessica was like most of the children there, accept for one obvious distinction. She was longing for my attention and brilliantly kept me engaged the entire evening through a continuous series of questions.
Mrs. Leah, what are we going to do next?
Mrs. Leah, when are we going to have a snack?
Mrs. Leah, why are we sitting at these tables?
Mrs Leah, when is my mommy coming back for me?
Mrs. Leah…Mrs. Leah…Mrs. Leah….
Jessica was inquisitive and wanted to be in-the-know…AT ALL TIMES. When Jessica asked – I would answer. Through this back-and-forth game, Jessica was gathering information and gaining insight about the evening’s events. Details that hadn’t been revealed yet to the other children in the program. Why? Because Jessica kept asking.
This morning, I came across this Bible verse and it reminded me of sweet little Jessica:
Keep asking so that the LORD will give you a spirit of wisdom and revelation as you come to know Christ better. Then you will have deeper insight. You will know the confidence that He calls you to have and the glorious wealth that God’s people will inherit. Ephesians 1:17-18
Just like Jessica, we should keep asking.
Asking who? God
Asking for what? For wisdom and revelation through the Holy Spirit
Asking why? So that we will come to know Christ better.
And, if we keep asking, what will we receive? God promises us three rewards:
1. Deeper insight: If we would be so bold to ask, then God promises to reveal Himself personally and intimately to us – so that we will come to know Him better. We will have greater insight about His character and great understanding of His will for our lives.
2. Confidence: If we’re not afraid to ask, God will give us the confidence we long for. Confidence in knowing that we are His children. Confidence that we are called to salvation and that no one can pluck us out of His holy hands. Confidence and absolute certainty of our victory through Christ, as we live out our challenging and forever changing lives here on earth.
3. Glorious inheritance: If we dare to ask, God will reveal to us the magnificent inheritance that awaits us in heaven. One that is free from sin and full of God’s presence. An inheritance that can never be stolen from us. An inheritance that can never be destroyed.
I don’t know about you but I want these rewards! I don’t want to miss out on any blessing that God may have for me.
If deeper insight is available to me – I want it.
If a confidence that cannot be shaken by life circumstances is available to me – I want it.
If a glorious inheritance is waiting for me in heaven – I want it.
So, I will keep asking and asking and asking – just like Jessica. Believing that the LORD will answer me and knowing by the authority of His Word in Ephesians 1:17-18 that He will faithfully do it.
What about you? Would you like to have deeper insight, an unshakable confidence, and bold assurance of a glorious inheritance? If so, than start asking, sweet friend! Don’t be afraid – be confident in God’s promises that are available to you today. There’s never a better time to start than right now.
Question: Out of the three rewards listed above, which one is most important to you today and why?

Dear Leah,
I need all three, but the one I would bank on at this point in my life is CONFIDENCE. Every area of my life at this point is suffering ang getting battered due to lack of confidence in myself for almost everything which has been the affect of the negativity of my past which still grips me in chains. The negativity of people toward me for the same because of my over sensitivity which causes them to see me as a trouble maker due to my reactions which come out in angry outbursts which hurt and damage those around me even though I don’t mean to, but am so out of control with my anger I can’t stop myself once I start . I then live with the guilt and regret of what I’ve said and done and the effect of it lasts for weeks with everyone upsset and angry with me and that leads to rejection I can’t live with. It’s a vicious circle I can’t seem to break or stop even though I’m able to suppress it for awhile through prayer. It’s a bondage I need to break free from and a warfare I feel I’m losing and I’m scared I’m going to fail all over again. Pleas pray.
