Do you like to write? Does writing come easily for you? Do thoughts flow freely from your mind onto paper or your laptop keyboard?

If so, that’s great news, because I need your help today!

I don’t suppose you feel like writing a 100+ page theological thesis for me, huh?

Hey, since writing comes so naturally for you, it probably would only take you a couple hours to write, right?

Well, let me just say that writing research papers and a thesis is really hard for me. It doesn’t come naturally for me at all! I love doing the research but when I sit down to write, my words fade into as sea of nothingness.

For all you writers out there, I need some writing tips and I need them now. πŸ™‚

Can you give me at least one piece of writing advice that has help you?

Maybe even some ideas on how to begin tackling and organizing all my researched information and putting it into chapter.

I’d appreciate any tips you can offer!

  2. Hmmm…good question Leah:) I always pray before I begin.

    I normally do both of the before mentioned ideas- collect and organize.

    It’s also good to write everyday. Journal something, even if it’s only 200 words, just to keep ideas flowing on paper.

    Bouncing ideas and thoughts about the particular subject off other people can also help stimulate creativity.

    And then work in an environment that helps you creatively. Some,who are ADD like me, need absolute quiet, while others work better with music or background noise.

    You love to speak. Try to write the way you would want to speak:)
    I’m the same way, so sometimes I voice record my ideas, then write!

  4. creating an outline is an organic process–for me anyway. List in just a few words (or a short sentence) key ideas–then start sorting. Put like ideas together. Combine ideas that seem similar. See which ideas work as subpoints. Sort and sort some more. You will likely start seeing a hiarchy of main and sub ideas.

    Don’t over edit yourself as you start writing. Just put the thought on paper. Go back and edit later. Better to have something to work with than nothing to work with. Plus, it can just get the juices flowing.

    Don’t feel that you have to start at the beginning and work to the end. Work on a section as it makes sense to you. You’ll eventually get to a more sequential approach.

  7. Creating an outline gives you a foundation to organize the research you find. I research before I begin any writing. When I find info I want to use,I copy and paste parts of the article (along with the reference)to a word document. I end up with pages of research clips to pull from as I write.
